When communicating with people many are not aware of the manner in which others comprehend the world and themselves. They may have a vague idea, and even share some common attributes, but being able to forecast interpretation of meaning to its full degree is impossible. Remember, the English language is one of the most difficult languages to understand and master, so given where a person originated, one word could mean something totally different than from another region of the country. Interpersonal communication has a foundational structure—sender, receiver, message and context. When the first message is created, a receiver will understand that message according to his personal background (ie, values, culture, experiences, knowledge) and according to context in which the message was created. To effectively communicate, people need to be able to take into consideration each individual’s background information to verbal or cultural meaning of the message being transmitted. So now you can understand why so many people have a failure to communicate, but can you as an organization afford it?
