When I was a retail manager, I remember we had secret shoppers to come in and shop our retail stores. Secret shoppers were pretty prevalent then, but they seem to be a thing of the past now. For those of you that have never heard of a secret shopper, they were actually corporate managers and employees that went out into the field and monitored how the employees were treating the customers that were shopping in their stores. Everyone knew of the secret shoppers, but didn’t know their identity or when they you be shopping. I have to admit it kept employees on their toes with customer service and the customer service satisfaction level was pretty high. In this ever changing competitive world of business, that would be old hat. Well, maybe we need to pull the old hat out and spruce it up a bit and wear it again. It worked and very well I might add.
