You can either use the office party to advance your career or sabotage it.  Capitalize on the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to deal with business situations of a social nature, a requirement for upper level management.  Usually senior executives and maybe even the CEO will be present and you can have the opportunity to introduce yourself and engage in conversations that can be very beneficial to you and your career.  Show off your social skills and demonstrate your ability to effectively communicate with people on every level.  Let co-workers know how much you appreciate them as well.  So go ahead and leverage your office party to advance your career.  It’s called creative marketing!
