How would you feel if you were meeting a very important business client and shortly after your introduction, the person turns to you and says, I’m sorry what was your name again. You would probably think (to yourself of course), what a jerk, how am I suppose to do business with them when I wasn’t important enough to remember my name. I’m sure you would not be the only person to think that thought because I and half of all the other people doing business in the world would feel the same way. So, here’s what I do. I know that I sometimes have to try harder when it comes to names; it’s not that the person is not important; I just have mental blocks sometimes with remembering names. When I meet a new person, I repeat the name back to myself during the introduction and it helps me to remember. Forgetting a new client or prospective clients name is not a good thing! Oh, and don’t use their first name unless they give you permission to do so.
