Okay, so you remembered to think before you wrote. Take into consideration who you letter is addressed to. Determine you style, content and structure by the how and why of your letter. This next consideration is a pet peeve of mine—misspelling someone’s name. I hate when someone misspells my name!!! (I’m yelling) Because I have a very common name, everyone assumes that Bettye is spelled Betty---mine’s not. And my last name is pronounced exactly how it’s spelled, yet almost everyone pronounces and spells it wrong. So you see what I mean when I say---don’t misspell people’s names. If you ever want to write in the wrong tone of voice, write a professional letter and misspell the person’s name. That might be a huge mistake. Secondly, always include the person’s title or honors.
