In business writing you have to not only be able to express your ideas clearly, you must be able to employ etiquette that will reflect positively on you and your business. Remember, I talked about tone, well suggesting the right tone will prevent offenses, misunderstandings, and a lack of clarity or hostility. The idea behind the letter or communication is to build and strengthen business relations and not tear them down or destroy them. Like in verbal communications, you think before you speak, in writing the same principle applies, think before you write. If need be, write a rough draft and proofread your letter. Never underestimate the power of proofreading. I have received correspondence and am amazed at the number of writers that fail to proofread. Believe me when I say, editing and proofreading should be your friend.
