As written in previous posts, the office party is an extension of your job and of the office. ‘Office Parties are Business Functions.’ So if you do not like socializing and don’t feel comfortable in social event environments, consider the office party as a project. A project that is part of your job responsibility; think of the socializing as a meeting with other co-workers on the project with you. It’s a stretch, but work with me here, I’m trying to help you feel comfortable in an otherwise uncomfortable situation. I would refrain from drinking alcohol, because of your uncomfortable ness you might drink to keep from being nervous and that’s not sociable drinking, that’s anxiety drinking! Drink clear soda or water. Mingle and find someone that appears as uncomfortable as you and talk a little weather, a little shop and what do you know, it’s time to say thank you and good night. My suggestion, practice on improving you communication skills, that’s usually the reason for shying away from social functions.
