
When it comes to marketing and advertising dollars, should mega companies really be concerned with where they come from. Wal-mart and Target alike have implemented a target marketing campaign geared strictly for teens. More recently these retailers are using TV ads and the Internet to appeal to teens directly for back-to-school spending. They have realized that younger consumers spend lots of Mom and Dads hard earned cash online as well. As a result they have created websites targeting teens specifically—Wal-mart has walmart.com/schoolyourway, and Target with target.com/backtoschool, where visitors can create characters. Researchers expect sales to soar as high as $54 billion up by 13 percent from last years $47.8 billion. A representative from the National Retail Federation says, “Retailers understand that teens have their own money, and they aren’t worried about gas prices and retirement plans.” Maybe not worry, but pay attention, nevertheless small business owners, watch, listen and learn. By the way, Wal-mart’s site is rocking!
