In the world of marketing communication, when a large corporation has survived 25 years of existence, the celebration seems to last just as long and I remember thinking, when is the celebration going to end? Well, that’s not the case for MTV. They just turned 25 years old and mums the word. MTV reaches 400 million viewers in 167 countries and is broadcasted in 22 languages. You would think that with that many viewers, that’s cause for a celebration, but for MTV its cause for lying low. The grand daddy of the first music video channel is struggling to find a place in today’s new world of entertainment TV. I can assure you that the targeted market for MTV does not include the 25 and older crowd, they’re probably preoccupied with many things and I’m thinking that MTV is not one of them. So maybe MTV will go out to pasture at the ripe old age of 25.
