As Web 2.0 takes hold and more of us use social media (like blogs) to help communicate with our customers, be aware of the risks involved.
Blogging can be addictive.
People have been known to withdraw completely from their once normal lives into obsessive compulsive blogging frenzies that last for weeks, even months.
Danger Will Robinson! Danger!
Lucky for us, we have the good people at Bloggers Anonymous to help us when things get out of control.
Their blog starts with this friendly post:
"You've made it this far. By coming to terms with your condition-your chances of recovery have increased significantly. Bloggers Anonymous will help see you through this difficult time. Just remember-you are not alone."
This entertaining blog is full of tongue-in-cheek self-help blog posts for the blogger in need like:
The "Mock 10" Signs of Blog Addiction
and
Live Blogging with BDD (Blogging Deficit Disorder)
So, by all means consider using a blog to communicate better with your customers. It can be a valuable part of your marketing arsenal.
But, be aware of the dangers.
And, if you find yourself showing any of the symptoms of Blogging Addiction (you check you blog stats a lot, you "mental blog", you "binge blog" 3 or 4 posts at once) then make sure you get yourself to the Blogging Addiction blog ASAP, before you hurt yourself or someone you love!
