The New Rules of Marketing and Communications

new_improved.jpgMy thanks go out to Doc Searls for his clarity, insight and fine writing on the topics of marketing, communications and the Internet.

He has written a wonderful article on how the Internet has changed the rules for anyone who wants to communicate with others.

Some key points from Doc's article:

*The Internet is a "many to many" medium

*No one controls the Internet

*Communications = conversations

*On the Internet, communications are personal

*Relationships matter

*Service is everything

*Branding requires substance as well as style

*Learn and earn before you tell and sell

*Emotions cast the deciding vote

*Your "position" is a fact, not a statement

and my personal favorite...

*Marketing should be as simple as a handshake

Doc has provided a useful framework we can use to think about and talk about how to best do our marketing and communications. And, I happen to agree with what he says.

So, in this blog we will be discussing all these and more. We'll go into more detail and depth and look at why these changes have taken place. And we'll discuss what we can all do to improve the quality of our own marketing and communications.
