Now the FCC is considering allowing cell phone use in-fight. The sanctum of a mediocre little bottle of wine, salted “bird food” snacks and a movie is now likely to be penetrated by the booming voices of those who must “communicate” and “touch base” all the time.
Think of the opportunities – you can learn that your divorce wasn’t as bad as others as you hear the gory details about what a “B” many other spouses were. You can learn nursery rhymes as parents sing them to their kids. You can learn all about unsuccessfully disciplining teenagers. And the best – you can hear the good, bad and ugly of your fellow fliers calls to the office!
CNN Money has a poll that asks if you feel cell phoning should be allowed in flight. As the 64,424th voter (a resounding NO! for me), I found that 39% of voters said yes, 54% said no, and 6% were unsure. The Wall Street Journal today noted that the FCC got 8000 comments when it proposed dropping the ban, and only 2 or 3 wanted calling in-flight. It said flight attendants also want the ban to stay in effect, fearing air rage.
