The Ladders, the site for six-figure job searches, has a good (and free!) newsletter, both on the site and free via email. The most recent one I received addressed the issue of creating your own “brand”. Many of us, especially marketers, have heard that one before, but this article, by William Arruda of Reach Communications Consulting has a unique twist. It recommends creating your own personal annual media plan.
What’s in this plan? A statement of purpose, as well as the steps you'll take throughout the year to promote yourself -- including making presentations, making comments on others' blogs, getting head shots, keeping the resume fully updated, updating marketing materials, writing articles, running for a board position…. All the things that make you visible to your many different audiences. And you have the ability to control the tone, pace and frequency of your message.
